Re: 1966 Johnson 100 - differnce between V4ML-12R vs V4ML-12M?

I have a pic of my motor...enclosed smaller disc looking flywheel...compared to V4ML-12M which has an open flywheel where you can see the teeth. I am hoping to buy the V4ML-12M as a parts motor but want to make sure it is a good match on many items. Are the ignition systems and wiring harness the same? The thing that throws me is that my motor is the off-white and this one is green. But the model number seems to indicate that they are both 66's. Thanks again.

The Pic on the left with the flat smaller flywheel is a 1967 100hp with a 15 amp alternator. This engine normally had Battery Capacitance Discharge iganition (Transistorized Solid State).

The Pic on the right with the raised type flywheel is a 1966 100hp with a 20 ampere alternator. THis engine had regular Automotive Type Ignition.

Pictures do not show the rear portion of the engines so I can't tell if the original is there or converted. Both use the distributor shown but the interior of the distributors would be different.

Oh boy... Here is a complete engine pic of both. Mine is the white engine, the other is green. Mine has model V4ML-12R on the transom plate and the other is V4ML-12M. Mine looks pretty original...meaning all same color and similar wear/aging. What have I got going on here?

Parts on the two engines would be pretty well interchangeabe. The 1967 (green) engine also has automotive ignition.... can't see what your engine (white) has BUT if it has the same type ignition coil, it's automotive ignition.
