I have just been asked for advice on this via a UK forum. suggestions include weak magnets, dodgy capacitors and one person thinks the coils are suspect.

Suspect? Well and truly stuffed I think. Any advances?

No wonder there's no spark - those coils are toast! Replace those and get a tune-up kit (new points and condensers) and new wires.

And take it all apart and get rid of the rust.

Stator plate, flywheel key, cores for the coils probably okay after cleaning up. Replace everything else.

I'd pull tne magneto and clean it and re-lub it at the same time. I would also pay some attention to the flywheel magnet. Give it a real good cleaning. Rick.

Thanks for the advice. Glad you agree about the coils. Passed it all on. Rest of the motor is apparently in good conditional apart from something, unspecified, about the prop. Cost of new coils in the UK may result in it being scrapped though. Pity if it is.
