I have a 66 Johnson 60hp (VXL-12R). I am not sure what type of lube to use in the lower unit. Not sure if it is electric shift or not. There is a control lever on the side of the engine which makes me think it is mechanical shift but I may be wrong. Just want to use the right Lube!!! :(

Any of the Evinrude gearcase lubes will work on your motor. All the 60's were mechanical shift.

HiVis, Utra Hpf, or XR lubes are better than the original oils for that motor.

any 80W90 gear oil rated GL5 will do, almost all of them have corosion inhibitors in them
