My first attempt at anything this significant. Following steps posted on the sticky for "Awakening Sleeping Outboard". Marvel Mystery Oil is soaking in the cylinders and plan to pull the motor off boat tomorrow. I think it has a lifting handle instead of a lifting eye, but please confirm that I can attach my engine lift to this handle to pull from boat. See pic below.

So are you suggesting to be cautious about using this lifting handle due to possible corrosion or because it is not really designed to lift the motor?

It was designed to lift the mtr. Used them many times. If all the bolts and ect look good, use it.

Removed from boat and onto engine stand...thanks Boobie.

Model # is V4ML-12R and Serial # J2657172. Looks to be a 1966 for sure.

2 Questions:
1. Wiring is shot. Can I disconnect ignition system and put a jumper straight to starter to spin motor for compression check? How do I do this to ensure I don't fry everything.
2. I found wiring harness on CDI for $180. Is this a complete unit that will replace all the wiring or are there other wiring items that I will need to purchase to rewire the engine? I am guessing it is cheaper to make your own harness, but I am not comfortable with doing so?

Hello,

Good luck on the motor. I have a low hour parts motor listed on eBay that came with a boat that my son purchased if you need any parts.

I'm looking for a set of pistons for my 1964 Johnson Meteor if you have them.
