Re: Mercruiser 110 tune up specs

plugs .035--pts. .016 or dwell 39 to 45 degrees timing 8 degrees at 800 rpm with mid grade gas. Run some product thru the engine before adj. the valves that may stop the noise. [ATF?] if that don't work the adjustment is 1 turn down from slack, I set most at 3/4 --bob

Solec Manual says the dwell is 28-34*
Adjust timing at idle speed.

Neither....

Here's a direct grab out of the genuine Merc manual for that engine... Merc110.PNG

Is the timing set at idle (500-600) or 800 rpm? Is there any timing tolerance like +- 2*?

Try to set the timing with the engine idling as slow as possible so that the centtifagal advance does not give an advanced reading.

set timing in gear, in the water, at idle (600 RPM). preferably tied to the dock or still on the trailer.

Dwell and timing can be set in neutral, with the engine running at 500-600rpm. But the final setting of the idle speed must be done in the water. In gear and 'unhindered'. That is, not tied to a jetty or trailer.
