decent motors if you like to tinker. They are mostly NLA for parts so if it's a regular water cruiser or your not too handy it probably isn't the best choice

The 650 is a wonderful motor if you can do the work / maintenance yourself.---If it is a proven runner with low hrs the $800 is reasonable.--Parts can be found if you look.----They may not be available overnight from AMAZON.----I believe I have a 66 model myself for restoration.

if your boat's just a boat the Evinrude will be a much better buy. Parts supply is good, they are good runners and were produced for many years.

The Merc will be good if you need a flashy engine. Parts can be found to service it should you need something but they went out of production years ago. What your going to find is old parts houses having leftovers and/ or collectors selling parts. The water pump is available and the lower unit is serviceable still as those parts were in use for many years

I just picked up a 64 Merc 650 this morning and have already had it running, I also received a file with 15 years of service records in it, so I know it has been taken care of by a shop.

Cost me a inexpensive 12 gauge shotgun.,
