1966 rude 9.5 15hp carb refit

I have an old 66 9.5 rude I want to put a 15hp carb on which casting #'s would work or years ,it's for the nephew pulling the 50 merc off the hydro and fixing the 9.5 to put on,safier for the kid

The 9.5hp engines are nothing like the later 9.9hp engines, and their carburetor's are a little bizzare. They're on the rear starboard side of the engine, and they're a downdraft type carb. They mount directly to the reed plate with about five screws.<br />Anything you came up with would be totally unique, I'm sure!<br />Good luck though anyway! :) <br /><br /> Picture of a 9.5hp carb. sounds like I should pick up a 9.9 to do the beef up less work to convert instead of manuing an intake

Or a 15hp engine and a 9.9hp cowling. Assuming you're looking at the racing hydro regs. :) <br /><br />I think that the lower unit alone makes it the better engine. The 9.5s used the old split-line cases, which aren't exactly slick. Plus the 9.9 is a more powerful engine than the 9.5s, which were kind of weak for their hp.<br />I understand the '60s 22.0 CID engines (18-20-25hp) can be tuned up quite a bit though.

no I don,t want him to race but a motor with a little punch so he has the feel ,I almost did myself in racing it with the 50 merc,any suggestions on something less than a 20hp in the omc group since they are easier for him to learn to fix ,if I get him a merc I,II have to fix it big joke ah!
