Hello and good day from Spain!

Today some mule must have kicked me in the head and I bought a run down (but pretty!) old ski/speed boat here in Mallorca. Its wood on steel frames (I assume marine ply) and looks like its very light with a quite mighty engine on it ..... he who wants to see, I have put a few pics up at www.lupeli.com/lupeli1

Anyway: So far I have found out that the engine seems to be a 1967 (no documentation came with the boat! *sigh*) and I even have found a few sites which sell gaskets and bushings and the likes for that engine. BUT: It seems the entire "lower end" is missing. That means, that if you look into the hole where the driveshaft (?) should go there is nothing in there. One can see a vertical and a horizontal gearwheel (quite rosty) and other than that it is "empty" "down there". All I have is the (also quite rosty) propshaft and the prop itself but even the screw/bolt/nut or whatever holding the prop is missing. But worse is the fact that the entire interior of that housing is missing.

I would appreciate any insight on how/ where I could find these parts and maybe someone even has an old drawing of the engine so we can pinpoint the parts that are missing. Also I would appreciate any insight tips advice on how to restore the exterior of the engine housing (chrome on plastic etc.) to look good again........ Thank you all in advance for sharing your expertise with me!

If possible try to find a donor engine with a complete lower unit, whats left and rusty you have would be hard for a amateur to repair, anyway heres a good site for parts breakdowns http://www.mercruiserparts.com/

Good Morning & thank you very much for the advice! Unfortunately I am living on a fairly small island in Spain, hence shipping an entire old engine over here to retrieve the lower end seems a bit costy and unpractical. You would not by any chance have a suggestion about some mechanic WITHIN the USA who might agree to accept the shipment of an engine (providing I can locate one) disassemble it, keep the good parts on stock for me and send only the now needed parts to over here?

Also: Would anyone know where to obtain a schematic drawing of the engine? Would make locating and specifying the missing parts a lot easier!

Regards!

Hi Laddies
I have not been lazy, but did continue my research on my own! and did find an excellent schematic drawing here
Point is, that I am missing pretty much everything thats shown there - except for part 1 (the actual housing) I have sent emails to a bunch of websites but have not received any answers yet. But I will have to learn to have some patience. Right? *smile*

Very interesting for me would be if anyone could confirm what newer models lower parts I could also use to substitute the entire lower end of my engine. I suppose that to be a bit more costy but maybe my only route to go if I dont want to spend the next year or so searching for a different part.

Regards!

Thanks!

Especially since a new question has come up: Someone suggested that the 1966 / 1967 engine had two exhaust openings, while mine only has one!

In either case, here is an other update on the situation here:

I bought a second engine!
Today, on ebay, (.com) Auction Number: 190147610141
(anyone cares to have a look?)

Anyway:I need to ship the dam thing from the USofA to good old Europe without it costing me an arm and a leg and without having to abuse the courteous help offered by some very nice members of this board!

Anyone around here with good advice (or his own shipping company?!) on how to get a 350 lbs Outboardmotor to my whereabouts?!
