Ran my 1968 on the lake the other day and couldn't trim up under power and assuming it was lifting out of the water when in reverse because boat barely moved in reverse. Went to look for replacement or preferably rebuild kits for the cylinders and it seems that the 1967-69 cylinders are impossible to find. I pulled one apart and saw how many seals and springs etc. where in it and don't think it's gonna be as easy to match the o-rings with some universal ones.
So wondering, is there a direct replacement for these years from the later years? Honestly from the research I did I couldn't find a definitive answer and by looking at the blown up parts diagrams I can see that the internals changed drastically and got away from the inner sleeve tube to transfer fluid to other side of seals, since the newer ones have a fitting at each end. I'm more concerned about the length extended and collapsed. I can make new hardlines to reach the ram side of cylinders if newer ones will bolt up.
Thank you
