1967 20hp johnson

i have a 1967 20hp johnson and i am having trouble with it shearing shear pins im not hitting rocks or anything else but it shears pins everytime im out.does anyone have any suggestions do they make harder pins and also im having trouble finding them since im using them rather frequently. thanks for any help. jeff

What does the prop look like? Is there any damage to the lower unit skeg or prop?<br />Shear pins should not shear unless put under a strain, and all else being equal, the water will not cause that kind of strain. Something else is wrong. <br />If it is the right sized pin, you have some other problem, other than the hardness of the pin.

Howdy.<br /><br />If the "slots" in the prop for the pin wear enough it will shear pins without hitting anything.<br /><br />You may need a new prop.<br /><br />Good luck.
