Hi. My lower unit leaked water and froze and cracked the casting before I had a chance to do my annual maintenance last fall. While pulling the lower unit off the leg the upper shifter rod came loose from the shift lever. I finally got the motor leg off after breaking half the bolts on everything that I could possible unbolt and was able to repair the problem with the shifter rod. Now I am faced with a difficult reassembly made more so by the fact that the two large gaskets at the base of the motor and motor leg need to be replaced.

Questions-
1. Are these gaskets still available?
2. If not, are they made from high temperature materials or could I use standard gasket material to make them myself?
3. The vibration isolators nuts all broke (on both sides!!!). Anyone have any suggestions?
4. My Seloc manual is 4.5 hours away so I can't refer to it for this question. The shifter lever will pull out 1/2" before it stops. I never noticed this before, but it probably has always done this (I am second owner). Is there supposed to be a clip and spacer on the inside of the shaft? There is a large groove in the shifter shaft about 1/2" inside the wall of the motor housing. While I have it apart this would be the time to address it, if there is a solution needed.
5. There are two bearings in the lower unit stacked on top of one another. THe large roller bearing on top is for the pinion drive, the smaller roller bearing unit is for the motor shaft. How do I get the smaller bearing unit out so I can replace it? It has rusted solid due to the leaking in the lower unit. The large roller bearing unit has individual bearings that come out. Do the needle bearings in the lower unit also come out individually? If so I could probably pry them out with a pick.

Re: 1967 33HP motor leg parts issues

1. Most of the parts you are looking for should be available.
2. High temp. Originals had asbestos in them, substitutes available
3. Replace them. Wondering why you took them off. Oh well
4. Casting eaten away on the inside end? The groove is for an o-ring to keep grease from oozing out. As I remember it, they do pull out a bit. The interlock lever holds it in.
5. There are more bearings than that. There are the large roller bearing, a needle bearing above that, a flat thrust bearing and races between the two, and a drive shaft needle bearing higher up. Special tools are required. Otherwise whatever you have in your toolbox that you can improvise. No, the needles are not the loose pack kind. If the needles come out, they are shot. Needle bearings must be pressed into the case by driving on the lettered end. Press on the other end will ruin them. Yes, the big rollers are loose pack.
6. You can view the electronic parts catalog and buy parts at
http://shop.evinrude.com/ It only goes back to 1968...same thing.
