Sorted my fuel line leaks and replaced a leaking fuel pump diaphragm as well. Engine proving difficult to start, and on checking I notice I'm not getting anywhere near full throttle. I also note that the distributor doesn't seem to move in sync with the throttle. Should the advance and retard on the ignition only move in sync with the throttle? Or is the distributor supposed to 'spring back' when the throttle is closed?
There is a LOT of free play on the linkages controlling the throttle. If the linkage rod at the throttle cam is set to the correct closed position with the black scribe mark centred on the plastic roller, opening the throttle via the linkage rod only gives just over a third throttle, and the advance hardly moves. I read somewhere about a tutorial on something called a 'link sync' but all I could find was one based on a 1960 model V4 with a magneto. I think the 'slop' in the linkages is a real issue. Thoughts anyone?
Cheers Will.
