I have been having trouble starting my engine. I am almost positive it is the rectifier(it is black and burned-out looking), so I bought a rectifier on ebay. however, it is a different model. I was wondering if an older model would work on my engine. any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Yes it will, just make double-sure to wire it up in the proper polarity.
The new ones hold-up much better than the old solenium type (with the big ol fins).

Check for a short also, before cranking it up. A short will quickly waste the rectifier.

replaced the rectifier on my '70 1150 last year
and the new style wouldn't bolt on without a little
metal bracket. if your going from new to old style
will need to remove bracket, but keep it for future.
I paid $35 for a brand new rectifier and the bracket
was an extra $8...
as for causing a starting problem, don't think
the rectifier would cause that? it just charges
the battery and sends signal to tach.
not an expert though, so could be wrong.
good luck,
M.Y.
