1967 Evinrude 40 hp big twin lower unit

Hello everyone My name is James and I recently purchased a sea king aluminum runabout. The boat has a 67 40 HP Evinrude Big Twin. The motor starts and runs amazing, my question has to do with the lower unit and oil and fluids. The impeller was replaced by the previous owner who didn't tighten the lower unit. I can see they used some sort of blue sealant on the lower unit is there supposed to be a gasket there? Also besides the lower unit gear oil is there any other fluid i can check and replace?

No other fluids.----There are some grease fittings.-----There is no gasket between lower unit and exhaust housing.-----Inspect thermostat.---Inspect ignition coils.------Do compression test for future reference.----Post your numbers here.
