Hi all,
first post!
I just picked up what I though was a 1966 60HP Evinrude, and it turns out that it is an 80HP 1967. Bonus!
Now into my issues
1. I'm looking for a wiring diagrams, as the wiring I have is all covered in masses of black tape and there is what looks like trailer wire conneted for the forward harness.
2. On the back of the engine there are two threaded connectors. The top one has a pipe leading forward, but the bottom one is open. Here is a pic, the connector is just in the centre. What should be there?

3. With the forward harness I have no controls. It's easy to figure out a on/off/start switch. What about the connections for the forward reverse? I've seen a couple of posts on how to make your own with a couple of toggle switches. Can someone point me in the right direction?
4. The previous owner cut the shock absorber shafts, as they were rusted in place. Do I need to replace them?
Cheers, Gus
