1967 Johnson Sea Horse 9.5

Hi I just bought a johnson sea horse 9.5 and the previous owner claims that every time that it was put into the forward gear and given power, it would come out of gear. The motor does shake a little bit inside the outer casing. Would that cause that problem?

That sounds like a worn clutch dog to me. You need to take the lower unit off and have a look. A Service Manual (for your particular motor), would be a big help to you.

Thanks! I think that the gears probably are worn out as well because when i tried it it would work for a bit and then it would have a grinding sound followed by it coming out of gear.
