If I wanted to verify RPMs what would be the best way to go about doing this? I guess what I need to know is what type of tach? How to wire? Etc. I would like to test a couple of different props 2 blade vs. 3 blade and would like to install a tach. I will be mounting this in a carpeted Jon boat set up as a crappie rig. Just want a simple small gauge to watch.

So is the Tiny Tach the best option for my situation?

I looked at them and I can't tell which one to order. They have 4 different models of Tiny Tach. It looks like the 1C model would be the right one but I can't tell for sure.

I was looking at a Tiny Tach for my 20hp and they told me to get the 2C. I would suggest that you email them and they will tell you what one you require.

There is always some for sale on eBay once you know the model you require.

I emailed them this morning but no response yet. I think I have decided on the Tiny Tach though. Seems to be the logical choice for my situation.

I finally got a response from Tiny Tach. It contradicts what Jackfish says they told him. Does anyone know for sure if the 1CR is in fact the right one? Below is the emailed response I got today. I hate to order the wrong one.

I believe the 1CR Model will work on your engine with the
red wire wrapped on each sparkplug wire.

Thank You

Steve Myers DTI

Well I guess I'm on my own on this one too. Maybe my questions are the problem.

My motor is 20 years newer than your motor maybe that has something to do with it.

I never did buy a Tiny Tach, so I can't tell you if the 2c would work or not. But I do remember that they told me to take the red wire and make three wraps around each plug wire.

There must be some fellows on here that have the Tiny Tachs on their motor?

TT226NR-2C Standard Model
Used on engines with one spark firing on each revolution of the crankshaft.
1 cylinder 2 stroke (reads 1x / revolution) Briggs, Kohler and Honda type engines.
4 stroke with electronic ignition and no points.
2C can also be used on 2 cylinder engines where the cylinders fire 1X per revolution.

TT226NR-1C Model for single or twin cylinder engines with a spark firing every 180 degrees of the engine crankshaft.
Jet skis generally use 1C.

Here are the TWO types they offer but I don't know which one to get. Is my 1967 Mercury 20HP outboard a twin cylinder engine with a spark firing every 180 degrees of the engine crankshaft? Could someone confirm this before I order the 1C model.
