1967 Merc Twin 350 Won't shift into neutral or reverse. HELP

Sorry to keep hounding all you great people for help. This motor has been teaching me alot of stuff and I'm loving it. But I need it to be working fast for our holidays. The motor runs great, but won't shift into nuetral or reverse. It is alwasy in forward. I'm not even sure if this motor is supposed to have the reverse capability, but I assume it does as the shift lever will slide from front to back and it feels like it's engaging, but nothing happens, just forward.

My Serial Number is 2242120
1967 Mercury Kiekhaufer Twin 350 (35hp)

Any help or advice is alwasy greatly appreciated.
