Hello all. Mine name is Chad. I'm a rookie. First meeting. First boat, first time ever working on a boat motor. Got this 67 merc, 1970 mark twain, and trailer all for $200. Knew it needed a distributer cap and rotor, and plugs... ended up fixing all that. She starts and runs good. She has 120 psi on all cylinders and good spark. Replaced the water impeller. The pump has some nasty gaskets and seals (which I have ordered new ones). Finally started it up with ear muffs, and no tell tale. Also tried trash can... still no go. Line is not clogged. water comes out of the prop exhaust.
Questions:
1) do I have a thermostat on this thing? Can't find one on the parts list. Figure it would be on the powerhead.
2) what does the copper water inlet tube connect to in the upper housing? should it be secure? It kinda just goes up parallel the drive shaft, and doesn't seem to get seeded anywhere.
3) is this one of those motors that has to warm up before it pees? I don't wanna run it too long.

Expertise and guidance would be much appreciated!

1) No t-stat
2) Goes into bottom of adapter plate. held in place by a grommet. If misaligned or forced into place the grommet can roll and block water flow.
3) If you start it and exhaust side plate is not cold it not getting water....

On mine, the tell tale was plugged up... I just ran a bit of thin wire through it and moved it around to dislodge what was in there and it works fine now

Thanks for the responses. I ended up replacing all the seals and gaskets on the water pump and water inlet. Works fine now!
