wondering if anyone can tell me if you take top cover of upper housing to change the oil in the upper housing? any help would be much appreciated.

Nope,...

Pull the Drain Plug from the Bottom of the outdrive,+ the Vent plug from the Top...
The oil will drain out...
Using a bottlepump,.. Pump the fresh oil in from the Bottom, til it runs out the Vent, install the Vent plug, remove the oil pump fitting,+ reinstall the Drain plug...

thanks bond-o, was told that upper and lower resevoirs were seperate and to take off the top plate and suck out upper reservoir with oil vacume pump then fill it through upper oil plug until it comes out upper vent plug. just aqquired a 1968 glastron vegabond 214 tri hull, boats in great shape been in fresh water its whole life. everything works but changing fluids before we start fishing it.thanks, jeff

Your engine and drive are actually a 67 model, they weren't used in 68. Very common in boats. Especially the older ones.

DO NOT listen to anything else from that source of information. They really don't have a clue.

Head up to the ADULTS ONLY sticky at the top of the forum and download the manual for your engine and drive (Service manual #1) from the Service manual link.
I't a huge file, but will be well worth it.
