Re: 1968 - 1970? OMC outdrive tilt mechanism will no go up
Does the motor spin when you flick the switch to raise the drive? Is there a clicking noise? I can think of a couple possibilities:
1. Solenoids are bad - should hear a clicking noise.
2. Battery is weak - again, should hear a clicking noise.
3. Tilt shaft or worm gear is bound up or broken - shouldn't really doing anything in this case.
4. Tilt gear is bound on the quadrant gear - loose bushing on the clutch pack shaft causing the shaft to slop and bind when the drive slams down.
5. Clutch pack housing is too tight causing clutch pack shaft to bind inside the housing - I added an extra gasket to the clutch housing to give the shaft more clearance.
6. Corrosion inside clutch housing causing ring gear, worm gear, clutch pack to bind - open it up and clean everything, etc.
