1968 60hp Evinrude

I purchased a boat last year for the first time.What i am wondering is can you put an outboard out of time by hitting a stump floating in the water?The motor ran fine but now it delays some when i give it full throttle.

If the flywheel key were partially sheared, the timing would be off a bit. The prop shear pin is designed to prevent this, check it first. If something other than a normal shear pin was used, pull the fly wheel and check the key.
