1968 650 mercury ?

I have a 15ft Starcraft that I'm looking for a motor for and I came across a 1968? Mercury 650 4 cylinder were these a decent motor ???

we had a 650 Mercury 3 cylinder on it before but it had problems..

The motor isn't run able right now is there anything I should look for ???

The 4 cyl 650s were great engines, the only problem is the last few years the wiring is starting to lose the insulation off it. As you know the 3 cyls are junk.

I have a 69 500 and I think it's a great motor for 40 years old. Regular maintenance... it's easy to work on...

I have a 1965 650 merc 4 cyl runs great only thing to watch for is the crank case for the bottom end may leak and you lose vaccum on the carbs which will make it hard to start merc never put a gasket there it was aluminum on aluminum i had to seal mine up with high temp silicone.
