1968 6hp cooling question

I did a search and can't find the exact answer I'm looking for. The motor starts and idles fine however there is no water coming out of the exhaust hole half way up the back of the motor. Is the water supposed to come out immediatley or does the thermostat need to kick in before it starts kicking out water? I had an old moter like this before and the water wouldn't come out until it got warmed up. Maybe it's time to take it to the shop.<br /><br />Thanks

how long did you let it run? open the cover when running and put your hand on the top near the head. if it gets to hot to hold your hand on it for 3 to 5 seconds it getting to hot, and you may need a thermo or impeller. welcome to iboats.

I let it run for about 5 minutes. I took it in to the shop and had an impellar put in it
