Hi Im new to this forum and I want to say i love forums like this, they are filled with experts and offer alot of help.
I just bought a 71 Larson Tri Hull has a 1968 85hp Evinrude model 85893.
i cant seem to get spark while turning the key and will not fire. The PO said he had it running a month ago (they always say that), and it lost spark. I confirmed this by grounding a new spark plug to the block and turning the key. Now when i got the boat I found a fuse hidden behind what I think is the amplifier? It had some frayed wires and a blown fuse. Ok. So I taped up the wire and replaced the fuse. Now, when i turn the key, still no spark except for when I stop turning the key there will be a quick spark. Why is that?
Is there a procedure to troubleshoot the ignition components? How do I test the components? Amplifier? Rectifier?
