Is the water outlet at the rear of the pan supposed to have a restricter of some sort? I can put my lttle finger up into the hole of the rubber accordian hose (that connects to the head) at the side and rear of the motor, just below the engine cover.
I haven't seen another 9.5, but all the other motors I've looked at, have what could be, a 1/8" diameter hole to indicate water flow.

This just seems to be too large to allow proper cooling in the upper cooling areas of the motor.

Good Morning Marty,

Not to worry. Your motor, in fact, all in that series as well as most older JonnyRudes, have the same sort of "tell-tale". When the motor is running, there won't be a steady stream of water present. Instead you should see a cough or spray comming from that port.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN

P.S. that's a fine ol' girl. I've a'66 that I love.

Thanks for the response!

Would it be a problem if I restricted the telltale with a plastic elbow to redirect the flow so I could more easily see it?

The way it is, the water comes out the rear, and I cannot see it while I'm under way. I have to slow down to a safe enough speed so I can look around the port side of the motor in order to see it.
