My Dad and I started this project during the late months of December. I went out to sea for January and February and just recently got back. While i was gone he replaced many of the parts on the engine to get it back into running shape. The engine is an original 1968 Johnson Seahorse 65hp. We plan on replacing the entire interior this spring and transom area eventually. We'll keep you guys posted on our progress throughout the spring...

Re: 1968 Glastron V-156 Restoration Project

Got the floor in over the past two weeks. It was a lot of work but it came out nice. We laid out 16 feet of fiberglass cloth on the deck before the sun went down. This stuff it tough to work with but it finishes nice when it dries. I'm thinking around two gallons of resin should be enough to finish the whole deck and all the corners, including the stern cuddy. I'll keep you posted with pics...

Re: 1968 Glastron V-156 Restoration Project

Got a lot of work done this weekend. Got the floor in and fiberglassed. Laid a coat of marine primer down. Didn't get all the spots i wanted to but i guess that's what second coats are for. We're going to carpet most of the boat anyways and the bulwarks will be covered in panels and more paint. The loose strand fiberglass in tough to work with. We used two gallons of resin to get everything good and soaked. We were lucky to have two warm days this weekend, rare for Massachusetts in March.

We also got the motor running today. We installed a new lower end and water pump along with a whole new ignition system. No water came out of the freeing port when it was running, only steam. This concerned us because the motor seemed to be running hot. Any ideas from anybody that has or has had this motor? (Motor is a 65hp Johnson Seahorse). Thanks for any help.

Good work on the deck. Not much water comes out of those ports on the motor until the thermostats open up. Even then it's pretty much just a mist. Not saying you don't have an issue just that that isn't a great indicator.

That looks great! Good for another 40 years. I have a 1975 model and it's a really good boat. The only difference I can see is that your windshield has a nice curved corner. Good luck with your project.

Re: 1968 Glastron V-156 Restoration Project

Got a lot done this weekend. Got the carpet in on Friday night and got it glued down Saturday morning. Rough cut the side panels for the bulwarks and forward console covers. We're planning to stain and poly these panels instead of carpeting them. We think it will give a better contrast for the transition from the carpet to the panels. We got the engine running smoothly Saturday afternoon after a long time coming. Sunday we finished the seat boxes off with carpet and finish corner pieces. We also painted the inner bulwarks and battery compartment a bright white. We'll see if they stay that way after use.

Next weekend we plan to finish the electronics in the dash and finish all of the wood we put in the boat. We picked up a Dual Marine radio system and we plan to install that as well. The seats need to be mounted and we need to find a good location to mount the throttle linkage.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get the haze out of the windshield. The window is plexiglass and had a dirty kind of sheen to it. Any suggestions will help, thanks.

to clear the windsheild try the headlamp dehazing stuff from the auto parts store, if that doesnt work, look for "micromesh", used it in the navy to repair aircraft windscreens that were hazing or scratched. hope this helps, good luck, looking good.

Looks great! I like that carpet color/texture. Should be very good at not showing every little bit of dirt.

thanks, yea i like the way that it looks. It matches the color of the boat decently. It was 88 cents a square foot at home depot so it came out to around 50 bucks for the whole boat. Its relatively soft as well, so it will be easy on the feet.
