Hello, I'm trying to replace the seals on my lower unit (gear case) is a 68 johnson 55hp, I have the case off the motor and I have the 4 screws that hold the propeller shaft out, but still doesn't want to come out, I don't see any extra screw or pin that holding the any shaft. Can anyone tell me how could I remove them without making any damage to it? Thks

You should not have to take the propellar shaft out to replace the seals. The seals are located on the outside of the prop shaft Use a small screw driver and pry the seals out one at a time. Remember when you put them back in the first one goes in with the lip closest to the prop and the second goes in with the lip closest to the gearbox. In other words they are put in back to back and remember if you want to replace all seals in the lower unit there are two more just like the prop seals below the impellar and are put in the same way back to back.

Yes, the small seal on the screw ware bad and also the two on the water pump plus one more under the water pump, but what about inside where the oil pump and gears are, dosen't need seal?
