I have a GW Invader 10 foot flat bottom boat with a Mercury 500 50 hp motor . I never ran the boat before this weekend . I ran the boat out of the water to make sure everything worked . When I put the boat in the water and tried to take off , it does not want to take off all that quickly . I figured with a 50 hp motor it would launch out of the water !!! When I floor it , it goes to about 3000 rpm and then takes quite some time to plain out and get going .....but once it does it runs at about 5200 rpm . What can I do ?? Prop or engine adjustments ?? Thanks in advance for any help .PS ...I know nothing about props

simplex54, <br /> Assuming the engine is running at it's full potential, its sounds like you could stand to drop 2" of pitch off your prop. That would get your Rpm's up by 400 and give you a better hole shot, without over-reving the motor. On a boat that light, you may also want to move some weight forward to aid in planing out. Also try trimming the Motor "IN' for better acceleration on takeoff. If you have power trim, tuck the motor "in" until you get on plane and gradually trim out until optimum speed is obtained. If it is manual trim, trim the motor in 1 hole on the adjustment pin and try it again. A planing fin(Doel Fin or Stingray) will also help greatly in getting on plane quickly. You may want to try that first.
