Good morning
I am having a hard time locating a distributor cap and rotor for my 1968 mercury 500. Is has a type two ignition system with a magneto. I find can fond mercury quicksilver parts but they are very expensive. Does anyone know of an aftermarket cap and rotor that will work on this motor

Thanks Nick

Those parts are very well made and no need to replace them as part of a tune-up !!-----No after market that I know of.-----Lots of good used one available if need be.----Are your parts proven to be defective , yes or no ?

Cleaning the cap contacts and rotor tip is all you need to do I use a Dremal tool with a wire wheel and just touch them lightly; then use air to blow out the particles.

Not sure if parts are defective or not. When I disassembled the cap everything was very dirty corroded so I have it all cleaned up now. I removed the rotor and the brass clip on the inside was broke off no sure I can fix that.

im not getting any spark at the plugs. Not sure if it is the cap, coil or switch box are bad. I replaced all the bad wiring and the motor ran fine then dies out suddenly. Have fuel and motor turns over just no spark. And of course electrical stuff is not my strong suit. Anything I I can work on or fix but electrical is a challenge

Thanks nick
