1968 Mercury/Kiekhafer 60 - 6HP

Hi guys

My dad has one of these motors, and he spent a lot of time restoring it a few years back. I remember using it at one point, but it stalled regularly and took several pulls to re-start. It has sat now for several years. I expect it may need a carb cleaning and possibly other work, but otherwise it looks very clean.

Can anybody tell me about this era of motor? Are they a strong motor, and would it be a suitable unit for trolling or running a small skiff? It sure is nice to look at, but I am not sure about it's overall reliability.

I had one of these units a long time ago. It was a great little motor. Ran like a top and trolled beautifully. We used it on a trip to Canada fishing on the Dauphin River. Took a while to go up stream but it worked for three of us in a 12' boat. Good luck.
