Ive had this boat for about 9 years now. Right from the get go I had to do a floor patch, and in that process realized I would eventualy have to tear into the floor and stringers at some point. That time is now. At one point the boat cover was blown off or stolen in storage and the boat had standing water in it for who knows how long. Ive got a good size garage and a few years ago I dragged it into the garage to dry.....and sit for years.

Well, now its time to dig into it. I really wasnt sure what kind I was going to find when I tore into the deck. To my surprise, the construction is actually pretty simple. Half-a$%@, but simple. Ive been lurking here for years researching and watching and waiting for my day. I was expecting something.....else.

Im pretty sure the transom is going to need replacement as well. Not sure if I want to pull the full cap off, or just cut the back 4'-5' feet off and splice it back on when Im done. The stringers and floors end just below the console and are tabbed into the hull it self at this point. So there is no real need to get under the front of the boat. There is a storage area under there that is elevated off the bottom of the hull and has never seen moisture. I also want to keep the cap on because I have no way to hold the hull from flexing out once its removed.

I was able to remove the center section of the floor complete!! good news for a template. Here it goes. Hope to keep progress posted up here.

What I started with 9 years ago. Since then, its been neglected and out in the elements. Now its heavily oxidized and dirty.

I like the hull so I'm thinking it would/will be a worthwhile project.

Some more progress pics. Got the front 1/3 of the floor out. Did some vacuuming. Did I mention at one point, while in storage, there was a bee hive under the dash!? It was about the size of a medicine ball, almost took up all of the space under the passenger side dash. I think I vacummed 10 lbs of bee bodies.

Anyways, that front sheet of plywood was able to come up in one piece. So now I have another template for later on.

I also pulled out a buffer to see how much oxidation I was able to pull off the hull. Right now its a chalky mess, but I was able to clean it up ok. I think it is going to take multiple passes to get it streak free. But I guess streaky, clean, and smooth is way better then hazy, chalky, and dirty.

The spots on the white cap I cleaned up turned out really well.

I'd recommend focusing most of your efforts on getting the hull gutted. The Spit and Polish should be very low on your list right now.

oh its low on my list. It was more out of curiosity. Im waiting for a friend to loan me his engine hoist, so I can remove the outboard. Then I can cut the cap and remove the last plywood panel, bulkhead, and get into the stringers and transom.

Ok when you get to it wet sand with 800 grit and work up to 1200. Then use a buffer and polish to finish it.
