First time poster here. I have been working on a 16 foot aluminum fishing boat that I got from a friend. It has a 1969 25 HP Johnson motor that I have brought back from the dead. I found that one of the arms from the impeller was broken off and I replaced it. I ran it for a few minutes on the trailer with the garden hose attached to the water intake. I know water is being taken in but should I see a significant stream of water coming out on a motor this size? I am seeing a spray of water coming out and it is warm so I know it's getting up to the motor. This is my first outboard and just want to make sure all is well before I take it out this weekend for a test ride. Thanks!

The older motors don't pee a stream like the newer ones - just a spray as you noted coming out the hole in the back of the exhaust housing. You can double check by splashing a little water on the cylinder head. If it sizzles and boils off, it's too hot. Or touch it - should be able to hold finger on it for several seconds. If it passes these tests, you should be good to go.

i agree with lindy46....I have a 69 Johnson 33 and just get a spray (moore like a splatter) out of the exhaust port. What you describe sounds normal to me. I have know this boat all of it's life (my Dad purchased it new in 1969) and it has alway doen this. I am the proud second owner of this fine Johnson motor and giving it plenty of run time!
