Hi everyone I'm new to this site. I was hoping I could get some help with my motor. I'm trying to replace my impeller. The problem I'm having is dis connecting the shift rod or linkage. I think I need to take this housing pictured off and I believe the pin in the rod is under the housing. I'm just worried if I take this housing off that there will be springs and washers and gears fly out everywhere. Does anybody know if I take this housing off will everything stay in place and allow me to disconnect the shift rod . Thanks guys. It's a 1969 Crysler 45 hp

Run a search on Wickware in the forum and you will see you are safe and some other options Pictures. If it is shifting good, I like to pull the cotter pin vs the coupling (using a longer bolt nut to hold it open). To me this is easier than centering the coupling to keep the good shifting.

6. You may not post in the forum to promote any personal enterprise, advertise a business or product, or to solicit responses for contests, off-site poll questionnaires or similar. This includes directing members to social networking sites.

MOD EDIT: Let's handle that via PM, please.

2. You need to remove the 6 or so bolts, on the housing, you may snap some bolts off, you-tube shows how to drill out snapped bolts, and tap threads for helicoils..
3.Everything will stay in place when when you remove the cowling, there will probably be a threaded coupling that connects the shift rod, mark it for putting it back together.
4. If this is your first impeller replacement, You-tube explains it perfect, get a new gasket too.

While my longer bolt holds the lower unit open from the leg (on the right), I got a pic to verify my water tube was in place. In two pics you should see the tube in the black seal. At the L/U to Mid Leg and from the bottom of the L/U.

Thanks for the replys guys. I still haven't figured out how to get it back it the hole that you guys are talking about. Not even sure I'm putting the water tube back where it was. I managed to put the tube onto the Lowe unit and put the lower unit back on but I can't be sure that it went into the right place. I'm kinda scared to start the motor without knowing for sure. Any more advice of ideas would be very helpful. Does anybody know exactally where the tube leads to.

Please don't start the motor, the water tube didn't go back in the hole.
Drop the LU, get on you back with a flashlight and look up in the motor for the hole, where the water pickup tube goes in.
If you can take a picture and post it, the forum will help you find it.
When the tube is in the hole,a water stream will come out the indicator hole almost immediately maybe 5-10 seconds after startup,if not turn motor off.Try again

Flash light.
Remove the lower.
Look up inside.
Then a bit of gorilla glue on the edge of the tube.
Only needs a little bit.
The contact parts need to be dry.
Push it back up inside.
Let dry overnight.

Then install the lower.

SORRY THIS SHOULD HAVE GONE IN THE OTHER POST
