C'mon, those are easy to get off. You should see a 40hp. Seriously, tighten down on that puller. If the puller breaks, get a better puller. It will come off.

Tighten the puller good and lightly smack the flywheel with a rubber hammer. It should pop right off. Once you get 'er apart, check the condition of the coils too and make sure their not cracked. These kind of coils often get cracked on the oitside insulation and leak out.

well, if i had asked earlier it might be light enough to check the coils and points....the rubber hammer worked great it took me about 1 minute to get it off...a warning about the flywheel popping off like that was nice to have in that top secret file

Those usually come off pretty easy, could be that the flywheel nut was loose, and it sheared the flywheel key, sometimes this will make a flywheel difficult to remove. If any of the advise of the previous posters doesn't work, I'd take it to a evinrude dealer and have them pull it. This shouldn't cost much, and will save you $ and headaches.

Hi zephyr, I agree, but when all your options are exhausted, go to a specialist, and have them do the hard stuff.

Our (one and only) Evinrude shop locally is 125.00 / hr., minimum one hour and they will not work on anything older than 1985. Kind of keeps me at arms length. 1985 should still be on warrantee. Rick.
