I got the motor to crank with a new fuse. Did spark plug test and no flash on my
bulb. Diagnosis on the instructions says to check the ignition system. Anyone had the same problem? Do I just need to replace the distributor cap/wires? Or do I need a new stator? Or do I need to rewire the whole thing?

On these motors you just do not go around changing parts.------Distributor caps used to be like $200 I think.----I believe it is time to invest in a factory repair manual.-------You will go broke changing out parts !

I’m already broke. I don’t have any money for a manual. Everything I’ve done for it has been a fuse and some plugs... I just wish I had someone near me who knew wtf they were doing

It may not be easy to find a shop that will work on that motor.----And a shop would not be cheap.----I am a 1000 miles away so no point in bringing it over.

No spark on any Cylinder?
could be the Coil, the Points, the Rotor, the amplifier, the Key Switch, the Wiring, the Anti-Reverse Spring.
Points are set at 0.010”.

Sorry ---So far I think this ignition system is above the present owners pay scale.----It appears he wants to guess at replacing parts untill it roars away.-----If you can find all the parts new it would be well over $1000 to do that.----Then again there could be loose / wrong connection somewhere.

My Neighbor had a 1970 60hp, wouldn't fire unless he took out a plug and sprayed gas into the cylinder head. I pulled the carbs and found Floats either way too high, or way too low. A coat hanger wire being used as the link between the Throttle Lever and the Armature Plate, a completely messed up Thermal Electric Choke. I suspected Points and leaky crankshaft seals. After sinking a few hundred into it he left it along the fence in the back lane. I should have grabbed it

When the price is right I pick up motors for parts.------I know of some places where these motors are in the way.----A case of 24 gets amazing returns for me when I go there.-------Marinas will not work on them as owners are often short of the funds needed.------Most shops will take on work / jobs when they know there will be PROFIT to be had.---They have to pay the bills.----Never mind the 2 months ( or more ) they will loose this summer.
