I'm not sure if this had been answered yet but I've tried many times to get a tach that works and finally finding one with the right number of "poles" still gets a wrong reading. Was the answer "no" to finding one that works on this old motor? It's battery ignition with alt.

Unfortunately, I had the same problem on my 1967 55 Hp Chrysler. I finally gave up. You need a tach that reads one pulse per revolution, and take the signal from the top coil terminal. The trouble with the alternator is that it only has 8 poles, different than the larger 3 and 4 cylinder engines. I don't know if a tach can be had for this application

I found something on another motor about a "TinyTach" wonder if anyone has tried that?
