I have a 1969 6 hp outboard that was running good until one cylinder stopped working. So I order new coils, points and condensers. I put all the new stuff in and one coil was not sitting right on the base which caused the flywheel to jam up. I disassembled it all again and filed down the coil edge that was over the base (maybe I shouldn't done that?? not sure as of yet found out on this site after...doh). I havent been able to get the motor running yet but my throttle will not past shift? I cannot move it to the start or fast position. It will only stay in the stop and shift position??

Any ideas on what is stopping it from moving into positions? I linkages look fine? I am at a lost and distraught I cant get the motor running. I thought this was going to be an easy fix for me but like Murphy's Law nothing goes according to plan.

Any help or suggestion???

problem solved, the armature plate moved way to far clockwise which was binding the throttle.

Could not torque the flywheel down to specifications as it would cause binding. Only torqued the flywheel just before it would bind.
