I have a 1969 evinrude 85 hp. The motor will trim down fine, but will only trim up at slow speeds without being on plane. The trim motor is running fine, just not raising the motor. Is it an O ring problem or hydraulic fluid? Is the fluid easy to change and what type should I use?
Also anyone know what the WOT RPM should be for this engine. I think i am running low, just going by engine noise as I don't have a tac, may have to change the prop. Any input appreciated.
Thanks....Chris

Your power tilt is probably fine. Those early OMC units weren't designed to lift the motor under (much) power - just when the motor's at low throttle settings. Basically, it's a power tilt not a power trim & tilt.

With today's gasoline, you want to prop it so it turns 5500rpm with a light load (e.g., you alone in the boat). If you don't have/can't borrow a tach, post back with your boat size, type & prop specs and we can at least make some guesses.
