1969 Chrys. outboard reverse but NO FORWARD

Took out today, have reverse no forward. Checked linkage etc. ok. later in my driveway when I put shifter in reverse the prop locked and couldn't turn either direction...ok. BUT when I put shifter in forward the prop turned freely one way but not the other way. OK>>> Do I need to take the lower unit off and visually inspect? What am I looking for? Think it's a simple fix?

Sounds like a simple shift rod adjustment. Forward is down, so under the bottom carb there will be the shift rod with two nuts on it . Loosen the top nut and run the bottom nut up to move the rod down. Do this about 1/2 turn at a time until you get both forward and reverse to lock up. Then bias it just a little toward forward to ensure a solid dog engagement.
