This was just discussed (about 2 weeks back) and solved on a 55 Chrysler close to yours. I feel “Nordin” recommended automotive coils. Try and PM a message to Nordin if needed.
Good Luck!

Sounds like it might have gotten hot?
Do a compression and spark test.
You sure the coils are the problem? If your getting spark????
Try new plugs?

Good Point Jerry! History on tuneups and maintenance helps in troubleshooting. Fire, Fuel and Compression basics should be known as working proper from routine maintenance and History.

Such as:
1. What type of ignition system do you have and when was it serviced last.
2. How do you service your fuel and how often?
3. How often do you check your plugs and run compression checks and get what readings?

Routine maintenance and observation is needed. Good Luck!
