Hi,

I?m not so very familiar with the English language but I will try to make myself understood. I wanted to exchange the impeller in my 1969 Evinrude 6 Hp outboard motor, model 6902M.
I managed to lower the lower unit and the gearcase together with the driveshaft after reading the instruction on this forum. It was hard to get the shaft down, but I did what the instruction says. I turned the fly wheel and put heavy pressure on the unit and suddenly it all came down so I could unscrew the shift rod connector. When I later looked up into the exhaust housing I got somewhat surprised.
What should I see when I look up into the exhaust housing along where the drive shaft goes? When I did I could see a hole for the shaft, but no washer and no spring and also no seal and o-ring. It seems to me as if I had to take off the Power Head to see and to replace the gasket, the o-ring, the bottom seal and the washer.
When I read the Repair Manual it says that the fly wheel has to be rotated until the pin alines with a slot, I don?t know what slot it is, in order to get the gearcase and the shaft down. I did so but I can?t see with what it should aline. In what space goes the pin on the shaft when the shaft rotates?
I also saw something made of brass in the beginning of the hole and a half moon shaped thing which goes around the hole and shaft like half a ring. What can that be and how vital is that? Has something broken down in my motor? What does the slot look like?

It would be nice if some of you would be kind and answer my questions

Regards
