Okay, I have been fixing up the wiring on my recently acquired boat and have reached the point of testing the electronics. To make it short everything works, and the starter engages the flywheel, so over the weekend I will try and actually start the boat. So all is appearing good to me so far, (fingers crossed)

However I noticed with the radio on if you move the shifter past the start position the radio power cuts out. Return the shifter to the start position the radio turns back on. If I recall it is only the radio, lights, horn bilge are not affected.

Is this likely the wiring of the radio to the dash? Hoping its not something with the selectric shifter as I have heard the issues that can arise with them.

I guess my main question if it can be answered, am I looking for a problem in the radio or the shifter?

thanks for any possible tips

the exact model number is 85993e

Re: 1969 Evinrude increase throttle radio cuts out

Alright so over the weekend I fired up the engine and the selectric shifter worked fine.

So the shifter works, the bilge, lights and horn all work while the throttle is pushed forward but the radio will cut out with the throttle pushed forward. Is it safe to assume it is an isolated problem with how the radio is drawing it's power?

I am a little confused as to how this is happening since the throttle itself is a cable. Is the shifter changing the current?
