Hello I would like to know if anyone can tell me how my 69 lark 35 hp outboard in great condition will power my boat ? She is a 16 foot loan star medallion allumnum hull .The boat came with this motor when I got it but the manual has a 90 hp rateing. I am haveing her all done up and the manual says the motor has fast excellarition and will be great for water sports etc.Boat weights w/motor 750 pounds my buddy says no way she will even plane up others say she will go 20 mph with 4 people and I have a great bet she should plane and go 20 w/2 people what can I expect thanks!

Well, here's for comparison.. My 15' fiberglass SeaStar is powered by a 25HP Johnson (1989), I have no problem planing with about 600# of gear (people, dog, fuel) on board. That's even considering that we're all in sitting in front of the center of the boat.. still planes up with no real problems.

In fairly calm water, no headwind .. I can make about 19.6MPH.

I don't think you'll be towing any water skiers, but tubing.. boarding should be fine.

If your buddy is a betting man, you can make a lot of money off him.

You can plane a 750 lb boat with a lot less than 35 hp.
