1969 Johnson 6HP Carb question

Hi,

I followed several threads/instructions on adjusting the low idle speed which say to start by closing, (not too tight), the low idle screw then bringing it out 1 /1/2 turns.... On my motor it only runs if I bring it out 3/4 turn and runs best at 1/2 which seems not right. I took the carb apart and cleaned and replaced the float, seat and needle valve and removed the little freeze and clean the three little passages. I'm guessing that this may be caused from something other than the carb but not sure at this point. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Do the basics first. Compression ok? Spark ok? Timing ok? Clean fuel? Air or vacuum leak? Also is fuel pump working? To answer your question on the 1 1/2 turns out is just a good starting point. Every motor will adjust set a little different! Get back and let us know what you find!
