ok here's the scoop. I have a 1969 Mercury 100hp (Kiekaefer) that needs repair. needs rectifier and switchbox. sn is 2399810. Estimate $900+ !! I only paid $1200 for the whole boat, motor, and trailer 3 years ago so it seems crazy to pay that much for a repair.. But its a beautiful motor, well cared for, a classic in line 6 tower of power, ran great until I messed with trying to install a new power cable myself and must have crossed the polarity briefly at some point and blew out the rectifier and switchbox. she turns over but won't fire.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? .

Heres an idea: First, get a Seloc Manual for that year motor (Seloc Manuals has all the wiring schematics needed) Second, learn your part numbers by going to sites like doug russell where you can enter your engine serial number and get those part numbers. Third, watch ebay for those parts...take your time, investigate...do some homework with what you see on ebay and go after the part you feel comfortable with...there is simply no reason to abandon that motor over some relatively simple ignition components....read, learn your motor...Study and prepare...you can cut that cost in half!

Oh...Have to add this, Radio Shack has whats known as a 25 amp Full Wave Bridge Rectifier thats even better than Mercury replacement Rectifiers...Can't find the part # right now, BUT it only costs like $5 or $10...seen this here on iboats, anyone remember this?

I'm the one that posted that up... As you can see, it has 4 terminals. 1 marked '-', one marked '+' and 2 marked '~'.

The '-' gets wired to ground (engine block), the '+' gets the red wire and the 2 '~' get a yellow wire each (doesn't matter which).

Rated at 50v, 25A. The stator output is only about 18v, 6A.

Here's the link to the Radio Shack parts. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062584

And look what I found in eBay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-...7280179QQptZBoatQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQ5fGear

While the Radio Shack rectifier is listed at 50 v, it is most likely a surplus unit and also most likely a higher voltage rating.

That stator most likely will develop over over 100v peak voltage, so I would recommend a minimum 200v rated rectifier. 20 amps is plenty of current capacity.

They're about 3-4 dollars at wholesale houses like Mouser electronics.

That's what I run on mine when it's 16 amp. Right now I have a 40 amp dual reg. setup on it. (V6)

hope it helps

http://www.allelectronics.com/index...query=35_A_200_PIV_BRIDGE_RECTIFIER&x=27&y=10

this is the one i used...35a, 200V and only 2.50, I put it on a squared U shaped piece of aluminum, one side to the plate, bottom of the U for the rectifier, and cut the last side into fins. Just a little insurance to make sure the heat gets out faster.

If you have any mechanical abilities this is a very easy job, do both yourself and save $500 bucks! People here will help if you get stuck.
