First off, I'm a newbie in the world of outbards. I recently accquired the above motor. It starts and runs and water comes out of the water pump weephole(?) at a steady stream..... for a few minutes and then stops. Am I looking at a new water pump, or might there be something else going on? The outside of the intake screen at the foot of the engine is clean. Thanks for any guidance.

Under what conditions are you testing...on a boat sitting at the dock or on a trailer backed down in the water ready to push the boat off, in a barrel, on muffs? Any prior knowledge of where the engine was operated....fresh or salt water, lots of silt, heavy vegetation area type things???? Any prior knowledge of maintenance activities? Been sitting up unused for a long time?

In a test tank the water level MUST BE about 6" above the water pump.----To much exhaust air will stop the pump from working.-----And there is that famous plastic washer at the top of the water tube.-----It has been known to melt and block water flow to the engine.

when you order the water pump kit, you need to know the diameter of your shaft. there are two choices, and the only way to know is to drop the foot and measuer
