I bought a pretty beat up Starcraft years ago and recently decided I should do something with it or recycle it. It has a low compression Merc 125 that I can’t buy oversized pistons for. I put it out back and forgot about it for the last 15 years. I stripped out he hull a couple of months ago and other than 2 areas of concern the rest is definitely repairable. My biggest concern is the hook in the hull about 5 feet forward from the transom on both sides. If I can push the areas back out without cracking the hull I will rebuild the boat. About 2’ total length along the rivet line joining the sides to the bottom. With about a 3/4 on an inch deflection from true. From what I have found out it’s manufactured from 5052 Non heat treatable Aluminum. No data on hardness. Has anyone attempted similar repairs? Replacing the rivets in the affected area and possibly adding some additional stringers to keep the areas from tin canning are not that big a deal. I just think doing an insert repair of the entire area is not worth it. Any thoughts?
