Found a project today, a 197? something aluminum Cherokee 19', 115 merc outboard, and trailer for $500.00. This boat is about a hundred miles from here, and the present owner knows nothing about it as it was bought as a project as well, and has abandoned it. Boat has smooth sides, open bow, doesn't look like it ever had a cover on it as the seats are all split, and the floor is covered with pine needles. I like the looks of the boat, and I can use this where I live as we have some big water close by. Anyone's thoughts on a project like this? Thanks

My initial thought is for you to make sure you can legally register it. I hope the owner has the correct paper work. By the look of the one photo and only $500 I say go for it!

I agree about being able to register it. You should be prepared to budge $4-5 K to do a total restoration and about 200 man hours of Hot, Itchy work.

I was wrong on the motor, it's a 125 not a 115. I'm going to make the drive to look at this boat over the weekend, What do I need to look at to make sure it's not a total POS.

This should help you out.

Since it has been sitting for a long time don't expect to get the motor running. Be prepared to remove just about anything that has wood in it. Basically, you are buying a trailer. If he has the proper paper work make your first offer $100 and go with your gut instinct for any amount above that.JMHO

I'm not getting any answers from the owner about where the boat is located, so they may have sold it before I could look at it.Thanks for all the help.
