1970 20' sterndrive tilt issue

Hello, Just bought a 1970 20' closed bow. has a chevy 307. The guy I bought it from thought it would be a great idea to completely remove the entire tilt unit. ie. motor, clutch, gear, everything!! So thats where I need to start on the refurbish. Where can I go for these parts? I want to keep this boat stock so I don't want to go with any after market.
The boat is in great shape but it is a 1970 so it needs a new interior and and paint.
P.S This is my first boat, so any advice will be very appreciated.

Sounds like a OMC, there are few parts factory available cause their not in business anymore

I want to keep this boat stock so I don't want to go with any after market.

Ayuh,... The OEManufacturer is OMC, which is Dead,+ Gone....
Aftermarket or Used are your only options...

Oh ya sorry, yes its an omc and honestly I cant tell you much more than that. The tag on the drive is missing, from my little research its a omc 210 I believe. So if new parts are not available. can you tell me where is a good place to look. Or what are my options?

new, original equipment parts are available. I don't know why that "no parts" line is towed around so much.

go to

shop.evinrude.com

go to parts

set the drop down menu to sterndrive, select your year and model and when you get to the "intermediate housing group" you will see all the parts can be ordered online from BRP who owns the original parts distribution segment of what was once OMC

Or, you can buy the parts at any dealer that sells Evinrude worldwide

I have come across numerous people that say they have used parts for this omc tilt unit. Is there any way for a rookie to identify these parts to be correct or is this dangerous??

it's a gamble.

you have all the parts books now - you can check each part number.

ebay seems to suck now for used parts.... a few on there, some priced more than new... no deals that I have seen lately.
